La transcreazione come forma di autotraduzione

Abstract

This paper aims at exploring the creative work of the Bengali Women's Support Group, an active association born in Sheffield (1985) around two charismatic figures: Debjani Chatterjee and Safuran Ara. The group has promoted many initiatives; the most meaningful is probably the Bilingual Book Project which, through a special kind of self-translation called transcreation, strived to create a balance between past and present, between the lands of origin and those of new settlement, between English and Bengali.

Questo saggio ha lo scopo di indagare lo sforzo creativo del Bengali Women’s Support Group, nato a Sheffield nel 1985 attorno alle figure carismatiche di due artiste: Debjani Chatterjee e Safuran Ara. Il gruppo ha promosso numerose iniziative, tra cui il Bilingual Book Project, che ha portato alla pubblicazione di quattro antologie scritte parallelamente in inglese e bengalese attraverso un processo di transcreazione (una forma particolare di autotraduzione). Attraverso il Bilingual Book Project i membri del gruppo hanno tentato di trovare un equilibrio tra passato e presente, tra terre d’origine e d’approdo, tra inglese e bengalese.
