Luigi Antonelli and the relationship with Luigi Pirandello: Il Maestro (1934)
Abstract
What most aroused my interest in the figure of Luigi Antonelli and his special relationship with Luigi Pirandello was the consultation of the manuscripts and typescripts of the Abruzzo playwright at the family archive located in Rome. In particular, I consulted the typescripts of the three-act comedies La nascita dell'uomo, La casa a tre piani, Il convegno, La bottega dei sogni, Fior di valle e gli atti unici Adamo e Eva, Non perdere il treno, Incontro sentimentale, an untitled text about a quarrel between boyfriends for reasons of sport, which later became Amore sportivo, C'è qualcuno al cancello, I diavoli nella foresta, Storia di burattini. Among the manuscripts, however, there is the story Sulle ali della scapolamina. La mia operazione chirurgica, the story Aligi senza gregge and Pinocchio, avventura fantastica di Collodi nella realizzazione scenica di Luigi Antonelli. Based on the study of these works, Antonelli's thought, his biography and the important collaboration with Pirandello, I decided to thoroughly analyze the mutual influences, the various correspondences, the similar and the different points of view.
